a great painting of a woman on the shore by Munch, and this Monet painting. I got in trouble at the Art Institute for drawing a picture of an umbrella in my sketchbook while standing in front of this painting. She came behind me, over my shoulder, and it went like this
 "You can't do that"
"What?"
"You can't draw in here"
"Can I take notes?"
"In pencil."
So, then, I was freaked out by this ridiculous restriction. If it was the fact that I was not allowed to sit in front of the painting and sketch for hours....okay, but I literally drew the picture of the top of the umbrella and was reprimanded. It was odd. So, then, later when I was drawing a circle around an area of notes that I wanted to highlight, I thought, "Is this legal? when does my note taking become drawing?" It was odd.
Here are the paintings I was looking at.

more images that I was looking at.....enjoy.

I just went to an amazing Edvard Munch show at the Chicago Art Institute...also just found some amazing images I thought I would post.
